2007 AGM 38th Annual Meeting

President's Report

Welcome.

I offer my appreciation to all of you for coming to AGM’s 38th Annual Meeting. As usual, the AGM Annual Report in your packet will provide an overall perspective of the activities and accomplishments of AGM since the last annual meeting.

My report today is to highlight a few of these special moments. We had a successful year financially, meaning, at the end of the year we still had a few dollars left in our pocket. We successfully switched over our data management systems from Lotus Notes to SQL – structured query language – or better known as “Sequel.” In the workshops, the staff demonstrated how this works with the Member Directory and Grant Maker Directory. Our plans are to use this same relational database to launch a Nonprofit Partners Directory.

This past year, AGM launched the Diversity Fellowship Program. We had the pleasure of having four very talented professionals join the inaugural class of 2006-7, spent nine month that seem to rapidly come and go. They worked at their respective host organizations (Barr Foundation, The Boston Foundation, Grants Management Associates, and the duel placement with the Theodore Edson Parker Foundation and United Way); they engaged in learning and reflections once a week at AGM, conducted a research project, and attended numerous profession meetings, conferences, or other networking activities. We worked them so hard that some had to take vacation this week. If any of the Fellows are here today, please stand to be recognized.

At the beginning of the year, we launched a CEO Roundtable Funders Groups – in Western MA, Cambridge, North Shore, New Hampshire Helped to re-start the Grants Managers Network and NEBIP This spring, we organized our first conference on corporate philanthropy

To conclude, as members you need to know that we are working hard, giving you the best we can, always seeking to improve, and because it comes with the territory ready to listen to what you have to say. To conclude my report, I want to offer my thank you’s First, thank you to the Staff – Miki, Ann, Mona, Jamila, Martha, Gail, Dayna, Nate, Tammy, and Georganna. We want to especially acknowledge Jamila, who will be moving on at the end of the month to become a BPS teacher. Second, all our Supporters and Sponsors – Could not accomplish goals without the additional funding support we receive.

And, finally, thank you to all the Board members – all those who have served, will continue to serve, and soon to join us. And to my board chair of the past two years, I want to say thank you Beth for all your support, guidance.
