Housing Families Inc., founded in 1986 by community members concerned about the growing crisis of homelessness, has helped more than 3,600 families make the transition out of homelessness to successfully retain permanent housing. Today, Housing Families is one of the largest and most capable providers of shelter and affordable rental housing in Massachusetts.
We provide safe, temporary shelter and quality affordable housing to homeless and at-risk families. We offer individualized supportive services to enrich children's lives, nurture the potential of each family member, and help families maintain permanent housing.

The Children’s Volunteer Coordinator is to assure an adequate number of well trained volunteers to support the needs of the Great Youth and Family Program.
- Recruit, train and supervise the over 100 daytime, afternoon, evening and weekend volunteers.
- Supervise service learning volunteer.
- Provide and oversee daily support and feedback to volunteers and regular contact with all volunteers.
- Train, or oversee, training for all new volunteers with three sessions per volunteer—orientation and follow up trainings.
- Oversee all ongoing volunteer trainings.
- Oversee day and evening childcare.
- Send volunteer recruitment mailings 3-4 times per year.
- Oversee Volunteer yearly welcome back dinner and appreciation dinner.
- Liaison with Horizons for Homeless Children, Colleges, and volunteer websites.
- Research new volunteer sources. Perform outreach for new volunteers.
- Oversee evening and weekend volunteer projects.
- Complete files and necessary documentation in a timely manner.
- Track and document volunteer hours monthly and provide and compile bi-yearly Volunteer evaluations.
- Participate in Housing Families Summer camp and vacation programing to support volunteers with children.
- Provide individual tutoring as necessary.
- Provide back-up transportation as needed.
- Help maintain a clean and tidy program
Applicants should preferably have minimally a Bachelor’s degree. Supervisory experience preferred. Must have experience working with children and also be bilingual. Applicants who have experience working with families from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
- Must be able to pass a CORI/SORI background check.
- Must have a car.
- Must be willing to work 40 hours per week.
- Must be willing to work Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, 12:30 -7:30; Fridays 12:30-6; Tuesday 9-7:30 and occasional weekends. Other hours to be negotiated with the Program Manager.
- Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.
- Must be 18 years or older.
