Commonwealth Shakespeare Company (CSC) is dedicated to artistic excellence, accessibility, and education, presenting plays of the highest artistic caliber that celebrate ideas and language to create dialogue around compelling issues of our time. Founded by Steven Maler in 1996, CSC is best known and celebrated as being the producers of Free Shakespeare on the Boston Common. In addition to its annual Boston Common season, CSC produces several play-reading events --Theatre in the Rough, Shakespeare & the Law, and Shakespeare & Leadership--as well as fully-staged classic and contemporary plays presented at Babson College's Sorenson Center for the Arts. CSC fulfills its educational mission with theater-training programs for pre-professional and early career actors, as well as presenting Shakespeare productions geared towards young audiences. CSC has an annual budget of $1.3 million, with nearly 80% of revenue coming from contributed sources. CSC has been the Theatre in Residence Babson College in Wellesley since 2013.
CSC is currently seeking an experienced grant writer to draft grant proposals and reports, and oversee the creation of a comprehensive government and foundation grant application and reporting calendar. This is a part-time, freelance position, reporting to CSC’s Director of Development.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate with Director of Development on the creation and maintenance of a comprehensive grant proposal and reporting calendar, including renewal of current grants (10-12 annually) and new grants and sponsorships.
- Research and recommend new grant and sponsorship opportunities aligned with CSC’s expanding roster of performance and education programs.
- Write grant and sponsorship proposals and interim/final reports; provide ample notice to Director of Development on required supplemental materials, including budgets and financial statements.
- Clearly communicate grant reporting and donor recognition requirements to ensure they are followed properly adhered to, including data collection needs.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 5 years experience in grant writing
- In-depth knowledge and experience with local, regional and national government and foundation funders, particularly in the arts.
- Proven track record of writing successful applications including smaller grants ($5,000 - $10,000 range) to larger grants ($25,000 - $100,000 range).
HOURS AND COMPENSATION
This is a part-time, freelance position. Compensation commensurate with experience. Please include salary expectations/fee structure in cover letter. Monthly hours will vary depending on grant calendar, ranging from 5 – 25 hours per month.
