Year Up is seeking an Institutional Giving Officer (Boston, Chicago, New York) to secure annual financial resources at a national and regional level in support of the Year Up mission and ongoing operations and strategic initiatives. Reporting to the Senior Director of National Foundation & Corporate Partnerships, the Institutional Giving Officer (Boston, Chicago, New York) is responsible for meeting an annual revenue and cash goal through engagement with foundations, corporations, and public funders in their assigned region. This role is responsible for leveraging existing partnerships to maximize engagement, and sourcing new relationships that align with the organization’s strategic priorities in their region. This individual is responsible for effective identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts for institutional funders in the six-figure+ range to help fuel the organization’s growth.

The Institutional Giving Officer (Boston, Chicago, New York) will at times interact with Year Up students as a coach, mentor, group facilitator, and advocate, participating in building a positive educational environment.

  • Manages portfolio comprised of foundations, corporations, and public funders
  • Cultivates, solicits, and stewards existing and new institutional donors in the six-figure+ range in the region
  • Assists in securing the organization’s annual cash goal
  • Collaborates with local Institutional Giving Managers in the region
  • Designs and executes large institutional fundraising opportunities in collaboration with the Director of National Foundation & Corporate Partnerships, senior leaders, and key functional team leaders
  • Cultivates relationships with foundation program officers and key foundation leadership to successfully secure investments at significant level
  • Collaborates with Grants Management team to develop compelling proposals and ensure accurate financial and programmatic reporting
  • Represents Year Up by attending and participating in external meetings and events
  • Serves as regional thought partner regarding philanthropy and policy trends related to workforce development and disconnected young adults
  • Other duties as assigned

Site Team/Learning Community Member

  • Serve as a coach/mentor for a small number of students
  • Join and sometimes facilitate weekly group sessions with students
  • Participate in staff meetings and trainings


  • Proven track record prospecting, cultivating, closing and stewarding 6-figure+ institutional gifts
  • Demonstrated leadership and collaboration skills in a dynamic organizational environment
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to develop, maintain and leverage relationships with external stakeholders
  • Proven passion for working with urban youth and an unshakable belief in their potential
  • Understanding the Opportunity Divide and its drivers
