Job Title: Volunteer and Donor Engagement Associate

Reports to: Development Director

Status: Full time, 40 hours a week, Exempt

Compensation: Generous salary and benefits package that commensurate with experience

Organization Overview: For four decades, Heading Home has effectively pioneered programs to end homelessness in Greater Boston. We provide emergency, transitional and permanent housing, plus support services such as life skills, financial literacy and job training, to formerly homeless families and individuals. Our housing-plus-services model works: For eleven consecutive years, 90+% of the residents in our permanent housing programs have remained successfully housed a year later. General: Reporting to the Development Director, the Volunteer & Donor Engagement Associate will support Heading Home’s fundraising efforts by identifying and cultivating individual and corporate donors. Primary responsibilities include: creating and executing meaningful volunteer events, assisting with donor events, and serving as an integral part of the annual gala. S/he will ensure positive relationships with donors, volunteers and staff. The ideal candidate will be a personable, detailed and organized. This job requires frequent night and weekend work and adjustments to the work week schedule will be made.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Donor Relations and Stewardship

  • Identifies and cultivates donors at the $1,000-$2,500 giving level, maintaining ongoing relationships and encouraging long-term support

  • Secures Boston Marathon bibs, plus recruits and stewards runners for Heading Home

  • Serves as primary liaison to the Youth Leadership Council

  • Manages the gift-in-kind program including sending acknowledgment letter

    Volunteer Events

  • Develops, schedules and attends volunteer events with individuals and corporations

  • Conceptualizes and manages Heading Home’s Holiday Gift Drive

  • Input all volunteer events into Raisers Edge and ensure proper follow up

  • Assists with participation logistics for our signature volunteer program, Up & Out

     

    Donor Events

  • Assists with the planning of donor recognition and cultivation events, including annual “Housewarming” fundraising event and annual meeting

  • Performs essential event management tasks including RSVP tracking and follow-up, name tags, on-site logistics, etc.

     

    Marketing and Communications

  • Maintains Heading Home’s website

  • Develops and distributes e-blasts related to events and volunteer opportunities

  • Coordinates social media efforts (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter)

     

    Other Duties

  • Represents Heading Home at various early morning, evening and weekend events to raise profile in community

  • Assists with projects as determined by CEO and Development Director

     

    Qualifications

  • BA/BS required

  • 2-3 years of development experience preferred

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Suite, as well as InDesign and MailChimp

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Attention to detail

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills

  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and able to successfully prioritize tasks within a fast-paced environment

  • Able to work independently and as part of a team

  • Commitment to Heading Home’s mission and the ability to communicate it to donors

    Essential Functions

  • Access to a car and valid MA driver’s license

  • Able to speak over the telephone

  • Able to do work using computer keyboard and monitor

  • Able to lift at least 40 lbs.
