The purpose of this conference is to examine, encourage and promote Black philanthropy as a means of economic empowerment and civic engagement. Keynote speakers include Beverly Daniel Tatum, President of Spelman College, Dr. James Comer, Yale University and Board of Directors, Nellie Mae Educational Foundation, Michelle Courton Brown, Senior Vice President of Charitable Management Services, Bank of America and Harry J. Lennix, Actor and Activist.

Our conference will focus on issues of education, health, media image and leadership.  We also seek to encourage the participation of Black researchers and consultants in studying issues affecting the Black community. The conference will bring together foundation and corporate grant makers, philanthropists and trustees, and is open to all. We will also honor Gail Snowden, former Vice President for finance and operations at The Boston Foundation.  Prior to joining The Boston Foundation, Ms. Snowden served as Executive Vice President for community investment at FleetBoston Financial Corp.  She is a veteran of the banking industry and a nationally recognized leader in urban community development.  Ms. Snowden will be honored at the conference’s business reception on Monday evening, June 23rd from 5:30 to 7:00.

The conference begins at noon, Sunday, June 22, 2008, in the Back Bay Events Center at John Hancock Hall, 200 Berkeley Street, located in Boston’s historic Copley Square, and concludes on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at 4:00 PM. View the conference agenda.
