The History and Purpose of the Summer Fund
In the 1970s, the Summer Fund was established in order to meet the need of sending children in the low-income neighborhoods of Greater Boston to camp. Since then, the Summer Fund has continued to flourish in its initiatives to serve the youth of the low-income neighborhoods of Greater Boston.
As a professional association of grant makers, Associated Grant Makers, Inc. (AGM), has been the galvanizing force behind building financial support for the Summer Fund through the private sector for the past thirty-six years. Working with its partners in the nonprofit community of New England, AGM has established a solid source of support that has allowed the Summer Fund to continue providing its important services to urban youth.
The Summer Fund is designed to provide youth with opportunities for new experiences, skill development and personal growth. Without the Summer Fund, youth and teens in the low-income neighborhoods of Greater Boston wouldn’t have the opportunity to participate in initiatives like the Cultural Day and Homeless Campership Fund.
