DESCRIPTION

EVkids empowers youth from Boston’s inner city with the skills and confidence needed to realize their potential. We create a community of support with 1-to-1 multi-year academic mentoring matches with top college volunteers, professional family engagement and school advocacy, and a life-changing summer camp experience at our 9-acre camp in Vermont. By building a caring community of support where success is expected and achievable together, we help our EVkids and their EVcorps tutor/mentors to become part of a more socially just, tolerant, and compassionate world.

EVkids are low-income students, grades 4-12, matched 1-to-1 with EVcorps student volunteers from Harvard, Boston College, Tufts, and Lesley University in multi-year tutoring and mentoring relationships. EVkids matches meet weekly at two EVkids after-school Tutoring sites in Dorchester and are supported with professional family engagement and school advocacy, building a strong community of support. We are growing to support 80 EVkids matches this year with plans to expand to a third Boston site in SY18-19. We also host 36 EVkids at EVkids Camp in Vermont each summer.

Over the last ten years, our EVkids high school seniors have had a college matriculation rate of 100%, all as first-generation college attendees. Our EVcorps volunteers also graduate to become life-long agents of positive social change. For more information, visit www.evkids.org.
